Chrysler ImperialCclimbing Rose

QUESTION: Do you think that the Chrysler Imperial climbing rose will do well in Medford Or?

I'm new here and want to plant the Chrysler Imperial on our picket fence (very sunny location).

If it's not hardy enough, do you have a suggestion for something similar in fragrance and color?

Thanks very much for your response.

ANSWER: The Chrysler Imperial climber would be ok for Medford, OR. It grows well in zones 4-9.

However, it only blooms ONCE in the summer.

It's not a repeatflowering climbing rose.

Another, rose that is just as beautiful and also very fragrant is the Don Juan Climbing Rose.

This rose is so fragrant and blooms from early summer until late fall.

Be sure to train the climbing rose horizontally, so it will grow lots of lateral flowering shoots.

Here is my page about climbing roses, that have useful information about pruning and training tips for climbing roses.
Best Regards,
Annelie
