Moisture meter?
by: Anonymous

Not sure what a moisture meter is?

Hi,
A moisture meter measures the moister-level in the soil.
It's available at garden centers. Buy one that has a foot long stick.
The last time I checked the price was $7.95.
It's great for potted plants also, so you don't overwater or underwater them.
It will tell you if the soil is dry, wet or moist a foot down.
You should test it at three locations around the plant.

Brown leaves not spider mites
by: Anonymous

I had already checked for spider mites after reading a posting of another gardener. Nope, not the problem. It is maybe 2 - 3 leaves on a few plants. Very confusing!

Hi,
Maybe you should get a moisture meter and find out if there is enough moisture. Stick the meter down in 3 places around the plant.
Actually, if there are only 2-3 leaves on a few rose plants it's not much of a problem, especially if the rose bushes get deep watered regularly.
Just remove the brown leaves and discard.
