How to make rose water: Here is my rose water recipe for making your own home made rose water.
It's actually easy to prepare and make rose water in your own kitchen.
It makes a very gentle astringent and skin toner that is good for your skin.
It can also be used in cooking.
The essential ingredient is fresh rose petals.
They should preferable be picked in the morning when the flowers are just opening, before the sun's heat causes the fragrant oils to evaporate.
You will need 4 cups of petals that are loosely packed.
The best rose petals are from the "Apothecary's Rose", or other highly scented varieties, such as "Yolande d'Aragon" (a pink hybrid perpetual), "Autumn Bouquet" ( a pink shrub, or "Oklahoma" ( a deep red hybrid tea).
Among old garden roses, those with red and deep pink flowers tend to have the strongest scent.
The most fragrant modern roses are usually dark crimson or mauve.
In any case, do NOT use flowers that have been sprayed with pesticide.
STEP 2: Boil approximately 2 quarts water. Pour enough over petals in sausepan to cover.
STEP 3: Cover pan tightly with lid and let steep for 15 minutes. Do not boil.
STEP 4: Place a strainer over the bowl of reserved fresh petals. Pour liquid from saucepan through a fine mesh strainer onto fresh petals. Cover bowl. Discard first batch of steeped petals.
STEP 5:After contents of bowl have cooled, pour liquid through strainer into a glass jar. Use this rose water immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
