Hybrid Tea Roses In The Shade

by Tina Lopez
(Palm Springs CA)

QUESTION: Hello, I'm planning on planting a garden but they tell me that hybrid teas can't grow on partial shade.

My garden only gets about 3-4 hours of sun during the day, any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi Tina! Roses need about 5-6 hours of direct sun every day to flower well.

The hybrid teas will not flower well with less sun.

They will also be prone to diseases, such as fungus and black spot with partial shade.

I recommend the Iceberg rose, a white floribunda, that will bloom well with 3-4 hours of direct sun.
Best Regards,
