Lack of Rose Blooms

QUESTION: Hi, We have a bush in front of our house for two years. In the first year it bloomed just fine, but since then all it is doing is putting out two long stems. We have two rose bushes on the other side of the steps that are doing fine. Any suggestions would be welcome.

ANSWER: Whenever, rose bushes slow down the flower production I always suspect the soil.

If the pH value is off in the soil it will be difficult for the plant to take up nutrients.
So therefore I suggest you do a soil test to check your pH value. Here is my page about soil for roses.
Another reason for lack of blooms could be that there isn't enough nutrients in the soil itself. So you should scratch in some soil conditioners around the roses.
Lack of water and not enough sun will also affect the flower production.
