Mulch from Rose Beds
QUESTION: Much that I read, indicates that black spot is prevented by good hygiene.
When roses are cut back and the bed is cleaned up, can the old cypress mulch that I use be reused elsewhere, or in a compost pile?
I have a significant amount of mulch each year that I remove and it seems a shame to waste it.
Thank you for your answer.
ANSWER: Yes, you can re-use the mulch. I would treat it if it came from black spot infected rose beds.
Fungus spores over winter in the mulch so use dormancy spray to kill fungus spores.
There are organic sprays available.
