How To Grow Roses From SeedsBefore planting the seed, soak the seeds in purified water for 24 hours. You'll find that some seeds will sink to the bottom, and some will float to the top. The seeds that float to the top are not viable, and you can discard them.
When To Plant The Rose Hip SeedsYou should plant the seeds in early spring, or when all danger from frost is gone in your area. Place the seeds about 1/2 inch deep in a mixture of 50% sterile potting soil, and 50% vermiculite. You can use small pots with drainage holes, and never let them stand in water on a saucer. Dust the seed lightly with a Rootone Root Starter This will reduce the chance of damp off, which is a disease that kills young seedlings. Water the planted seed with sprays of water, so the soil is thoroughly soaked. Then put the pots ouside in direct sunlight. Keep them watered and never let the pots dry out. In about six weeks, or when the weather warms up, the seedlings will sprout. If the weather gets too warm, or hot the seedlings will stop sprouting.
Transplanting The Rose Hip SeedsWhen the rose seedlings are about 3-4 inches tall, you can transplant them into larger pots. It will take about three years for a rose seedling to grow into a mature rose bush that will bloom. Sometimes, once in while, it can take up to 5 years.
