Roses For Ground Cover
QUESTION: Hello - My name is Peter Ramsey. I am a sculptor/ garden designer from Norfolk County, Ontario Canada.
I am looking for a ground cover rose under 3' that could be planted in a public garden site.
The Town of Port Dover was the home of Ivey's Roses until just the last 20 years.
Iver's was once the largest rose grower in Canada.
I am designing a garden/ welcome sign for the town and need and want to plant a base drift of red roses around the perimeter - preferably with thorns to dissuade vandals.
We are in a Carolinian growing zone on the shore of Lake Erie.
Peter
ANSWER: Hi Peter,
I recommend the carpet roses. They make great groundcover landscape roses, that require very little, if at all, maintenance.
Best Regards,
Annelie
