Roses in Phoenix, Arizona.
My husband and I moved to Phoenix, Arizona and spent two summers there. I moved my roses from Palmdale, California to Phoenix. The days were about 119 and very hot at night. My roses bloomed beautifully, however the flowers looked like someone had taken a blow torch to the flowers or had roasted them over a campfire like one would a marshmellow. They were black. I purchased my roses from Heirloom roses here in Oregon and I think the own root saved my roses.
The best idea for growing roses in Phoenix is we dug them up in the middle of September piled them in the trunk of our Honda and we all moved to Woodburn, Oregon where my roses have been for the past five summers. They love it here.
Gardening in Phoenix is very difficult for someone like myself whom loves to be outside. Heat stroke is very real problem there.
We loved Phoenix however not the summers.
Happy from Woodburn, Oregon, Faye and Charlie
Hi Faye and Charlie,
Growing roses in Arizona can be very difficult. There are only so many rose varieties that tolerate hot weather like that.
I am glad you are living in a region where growing roses is easy and fun. After all Portland Oregon is known as the Rose Capital of the USA.
Thanks for sharing.
