The rose flower paintings featured below are high quality reproductions lithograph prints of the reknowned French court painter Pierre-Joseph Redoute, who was hired by Empress Josephine to paint her collection of roses at her Chateau de la Malmaison, in Paris. The picture above shows the Empress Josephine with her courtiers in a painting from c.1867 by Jean Louis Victor(1819-1879).
Above is portrait of Pierre-josehp Redoute. His published books, with pictures of his rose paintings, was the ultimate reference work on roses for many years. Many of the 170 roses painted by Redoute are still being grown in gardens to this day. One of his paintings of 'Blush Noisette' rose is considered to be a masterpiece of botanical illustrations. This very painting, a reproduction, is offered for sale below.
