Winter Care For
Climbing Golden Showers Rose

QUESTION: I live in Central Indiana. What do I need to do to winterize my Climbing Golden Showers rose that I planted in the Spring of this year?

ANSWER: How much protection you need to give your Golden Showers climbing rose, or any cold tender rose, depends on your climate zone.

In zones 5 and colder, you need to mound the rose with soil or compost to a height of 10 to 12 inches.

You also need to protect the top growth.

For a climbing rose such as Golden Showers, it's a good idea to tie the tall canes together with twine, before wrapping them with burlap, or other winter coverings for roses, available at the garden centers.

Two or three weeks later, gently remove, push away, the mounded soil.

You can now untie the canes and tie them to the support.

I suggest you read my page about winterizing roses.
